Anna May Wong

Anna May Wong played in many different movies, the one we watched was Piccadilly. During this era we discussed in class how the film producer really didn't care if the screens taking place were real or not. Like in this film where she does a dance. Knowledgeable people would know that that wasn't a real Chinese dance. But people that are just watching the film would think it was.
I feel kind bad for Anna may, I fee she was married to her career. She lived the role that she played in her movies. The woman who falls for the white man but isnt allowed to be with him and dies alone. During her time the aw forbid the marriage between  a white man with an Asian woman.
Another film we watched was The toll of the Sea. this was a silent film which was new to me since Ive never really sat and watched a whole silent film before. In this movie she rescued a white man that had washed up to shore. From that moment they became close, he would come visit her, she was so happy. But the woman of her village warned her that the white men come and then they leave and never come back. She dedicated her time and lifestyle to him while he was there. She even refused o speak her lanaguage with her friends saying that she was American and would only speak English. She tried to walk how the "American woman" walked and had even aquired american clothing.
The time came, when her now husband, had to go back to america. Because of the law, he was allowed to marry an Asian woman but he could not bring her back to America. he left, and she waited for his return, while at the same time conceiving his baby. The time came when her desirable American husband came back, but he didn't come alone, he came with his real American wife. She was devastated and didn't want to tell him about his child. She ended up talking alone with his new wife and they made the arrangement where her child would leave with them and live in America. They would be the new parents.
Love silent films had so much emotion involved in them. Though they didn't speak, I was able to pick up by facial expression and the music, the mode that was set in place.
